By October 2016 INNOTECS will be the European Network to discuss and establish the European agenda in the field of VET schools for the Technical sector.
The Technical sector in Europe is under pressure due to the increased competition worldwide, especially due to the development in Asian countries such as China, Korea and India. Moreover, there is a lack of good qualified young employees (expected in 2020) in many countries and at the same time lack of jobs and massive (youth) unemployment in the Technical sector due to the crisis on the other hand.
INNOTECS stands for International Network of Technical Schools. At the moment there is no International network for Technical VET schools and schools for Higher education in Technique who could deal with the future challenges coming from the European Labour market. INNOTECS fills in this gap.
The unprecedented high youth unemployment rates highlight the necessity for urgent action. This has drawn decision makers’ attention to Vocational Education and Training. Effective VET systems, in particular those that include a strong work-based learning module, seem to ease the transition of young people from education to work. Countries with robust, attractive VET systems, and especially those with well-established education systems, tend to perform better in terms of youth employment. Restructuring VET systems can, bring results which help to tackle high youth unemployment, even in the short term, besides contributing to better skill matching and competitiveness in the longer term. A key issue in this respect is the integration of a high quality work-based learning component in all initial VET programmes as well as good links between VET, the labour market and the wider education system. Future Employees have to be willing to relocate (even abroad) or may be working with colleagues from other European countries.
