The College of the Bahamas opened its doors for the first time in September 1975. After more than 40 years of serving to the Bahamas, November 10th 2016 is the official date for The College of the Bahamas to become The University of Bahamas. As the University, it will continue to deliver outstanding undergraduate teaching while developing new undergraduate and graduate programmes, increasing research activities, and fostering a culture of innovation. The mission of The College of The Bahamas is to support and drive national development through teaching, research & innovation and service to the community.
Academic programmes have expanded tremendously over the years and there is a wide variety of them. Students can choose among programmes at five faculties and three institutes:

Faculty of Pure & Applied Sciences
Culinary & Hospitality Management Institute (CHMI)
Continuing Education & Extension Services (CEES)
International Languages & Cultures Institute (ILCI)
Most of the institutions are located at the principal campus - the Oakes Field Campus, situated within two miles of the center of Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas, located on the island of New Providence. There are a few campuses situated on other Bahamas islands as Northern Bahamas, Family Island, Exuma, Abaco and Andros.
The College currently enrolls over 5,000 students in undergraduate and graduate education. The student life experience is enriching both inside and out of the classroom. Beyond the traditional classroom, there are also numerous student leadership, campus event and community outreach opportunities. Today´s College of The Bahamas student can also see the world through The College´s study abroad and student exchange programmes or represent The College in sport activities. The College also offers an early entry “Jump Start” programme for high-flying high-schoolers.
Application deadline for Fall Semester which is starting the second half of August is at the end of February and in case of Spring Semester which is starting in January the deadline for application is at the end of September. There are a few attachments required to be send together with application as results from your previous studies, copy of Immigration documents in case you are not a Bahamian citizen or essay outlining your future career goals and plans. Some academic programmes have additional requirements. For example in case of Art programme applicants are required to complete an interview and to also submit a portfolio.
Despite the fact that The College of the Bahamas is the national public institution of higher education, there are Tuition and Fees applicable. Financial aid is provided for students who could not otherwise attend the College.
